Information has emerged that an Air Canada Boeing 787 bound for London from Montreal made an emergency landing in Gander on July 8.
Details have been released pertinent to this incident, which we will go into in this article.

Air Canada Flight AC864 – Montreal to London: Emergency in Gander…
Air Canada flight AC864, of which the Boeing 787 made an emergency landing in Gander, is a routine scheduled flight between Montreal and London.
Also, it is understood that C-FSBV is the aircraft involved in this particular incident.
As per data from Planespotters.net, C-FSBV is a 6.8 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in October 2017.
Of the 787-9 variant, Air Canada has 31 of them in their fleet.
Furthermore, all 31 are in active service, with an average age of 7.1 years.
As well as the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, Air Canada has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 33 Airbus A220 aircraft.
- 5 Airbus A319s.
- 18 Airbus A320s.
- 17 Airbus A321s.
- 20 Airbus A330s.

Air Canada flight AC864, the Boeing 787 which made an emergency landing in Gander, departed Montreal on July 7 and initially climbed east towards London Heathrow.
Moreover, as per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the aircraft declared what is known as a “PAN PAN” and asked to divert to Gander.
After two hours and 45 minutes in the air, the aircraft landed safely without further incident.
Furthermore, the aviation safety outlet said the reason for the emergency landing was due to a burning smell onboard.
Aircraft Grounded Overnight…
Following this incident involving the emergency landing onboard Air Canada flight AC864 in Gander, C-FSBV was grounded overnight.
It is understood that the lower right hand recirculating fan had failed and needed replacing.
The next day, the aircraft positioned over to Toronto following checks and appropriate fixes made to the airplane.

- AC187 – Toronto to Vancouver.

- AC19 – Vancouver to Singapore.
- AC20 – Singapore to Vancouver.
- AC342 – Vancouver to Ottawa.
- AC345 – Ottawa to Vancouver.
- AC7 – Vancouver to Hong Kong.
- AC8 – Hong Kong to Vancouver.
- AC230 – Vancouver to Calgary.
- AC132 – Calgary to Toronto.
- AC159 – Toronto to Calgary.
- AC225 – Calgary to Vancouver.
- AC21 – Vancouver to Hong Kong.
It is safe to say that the aircraft has operated a lot of safe flights following the incident.

In conclusion, the burning smell which caused the emergency landing of Air Canada flight AC864 in Gander was needed.
Furthermore, the strong burning odour in the cabin would not have been a pleasant experience for passengers.
Following the fix, the aircraft is in perfect condition again and is operating well.
