Aegean Airlines A320-200 Runway Excursion After Landing in Budapest

An Aegean Airlines A320-200 arriving from Athens suffered a runway excursion after exiting the runway at Budapest (BUD) on 28 November.

An Aegean Airlines Airbus A320-200 arriving from Athens suffered a runway excursion during its landing at Budapest on 28 November 2024.

Aegean Airlines flight A3876, operated by an Airbus A320-200 was conducting an arrival from Athens International Airport (ATH).

The flight was given clearance to land on runway 13R Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The landing roll was uneventful, and the aircraft was decelerated to taxi speed.

During the aircraft’s exit from the active runway onto the taxiway, it skidded and suffered a runway excursion. The aircraft became disabled with its nose gear embedded in soft ground.

As a result, the runway was closed temporarily to traffic. The aircraft was subsequently relocated to the paved taxiway area and towed to the apron.

According to the online source Aviation Herald, Budapest airport reported that the operating crew had experienced a brake failure while taxiing.

Flight Details


Flight data shows that flight A3876 and made a departure from Athens International Airport at 1214 local time on 28 November.

The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL320 for the northerly service to Budapest.

Descent and approach procedures were similarly conducted normally at the arrival airport. The aircraft maintained directional control during the landing roll. It left the shoulder of the paved surface on exiting the runway.

The aircraft conducting the A3876 service from Athens was an Airbus A320-200, registered SX-DVV. This is a 15.9-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Aegean Airlines.

It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in February 2009. The aircraft bears the airline name “Cleisthenes”.
