SAS is expanding its North American network with the reintroduction of a route to Seattle. Starting in May 2025, the airline will offer five weekly direct flights from Copenhagen to Seattle.
This marks a significant milestone as SAS resumes service between the two cities. The new route will resume 57 years on from the carrier’s inaugural Seattle flight.
With Seattle added to its network, SAS will now offer nonstop flights to 11 North American destinations. This further enhances the airline’s global connectivity from Copenhagen Airport, serving as a key gateway to and from Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
Seattle and Scandinavian Ties
“We are thrilled to expand our North American network with Seattle,” said Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS. “This route will provide more travel options for our customers. It strengthens the connection between Scandinavia and the Pacific Northwest, a region with deep Scandinavian roots.”
Seattle, a vibrant and wealthy city, has long-standing ties with Scandinavia dating back to the early 1900s. Waves of Nordic immigrants brought their culture, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit to the region, leaving a lasting impact.
“This new addition to our network underscores our commitment to providing travelers with more direct route options,” continued van der Werff.
“Seattle has been a highly requested destination by our customers, and we are excited to launch this route. Additionally, Seattle’s growing cargo operations make this expansion even more strategically valuable.”
Operations to Commence May 21
The Copenhagen-Seattle route will start operating on May 21. SAS has designed the proposed schedule to maximize connectivity with the rest of its network. This will offer seamless one-stop access to and from 39 European cities via Copenhagen. This includes key European destinations like Berlin, Helsinki, Milan, and Zurich.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) handled more than 50.9 million passengers in 2023. The airport expects passenger traffic to continue increasing. Seattle is just one of several new routes that SAS will be announcing soon.
SAS, Scandinavia’s leading airline since 1946, operates from its principal hub at Copenhagen Airport (CPH). The carrier supports additional hubs in Oslo (OSL) and Stockholm (ARN).
Its stated mission is to connect Scandinavia with the world and the world with Scandinavia. Each year, SAS serves over 25 million passengers. It transports 55 tons of cargo to 135 destinations across Europe, the USA, and Asia.
